Louvre --> Arc du Triumph --> Wine on a roof top --> Indian food --> homework
Louvre: We had an assignment about the french revolution's manifestation through painting and art in the styles of Rococo, Neo-classicism, and romanticism (before, during and after the revolution). We split into 4 groups and had to play curator by picking a painting from each period which we thought represented the style and popular mentality of the people. After and hour and a half to do that, we had to walk back around and show everyone the paintings we chose and explain them a bit. The Louvre isn't small. The French painting section, correction, sectionS aren't even contained in one wing so we did a fair share of walking around for all of this. I saw the Mona Lisa and Venus on some side tours too. After about 4 hours there, we were all very tired and grumpy. The food court looked promising until we noticed that a meal would cost us about 25 USD per person. What's a student to do!? Oh, snap. There is a McDonalds in the Louvre. I will admit. My lunch consisted of a small fries and a diet coke. (By the time we ate it was 2:30 and we were planning on meeting for dinner at 5 so I didn't really feel like there was a big need for a huge lunch). They also sold macarons at the McCafe so 4 of us split a box of 6.
After that Jeremy and I went in search of some street performers who were dancing so we could film them for a project for a class. He has lived in Paris and said that there usually are some around the arc du triumph so we walked there. (About 2 miles). We found nothing but some dancing wooden marionettes of disney characters popping up and down to some indian type music. I filmed them and we took the metro home.
We got back right at 5 and everyone met at the guy's apartment for pre-dinner wine with Dr. Brint and Nick Muller, a student who is at grad school in Paris right now but who did the Oxford program last year. We sipped wine and talked for about an hour and a half on the roof top terrace of the boy's apartment and when we were all too hungry to think (or was that the 2nd glass of wine?) we took the metro to a northern neighborhood of Paris for indian food. It was delicious but SO greasy. I can't complain too much however because it was the most bang for your buck meal we've had yet. Paris is an expensive town to eat out in. My entire bill was 10 euros, with a drink. Normally I would have a hard time finding a filling meal for around 10.
Now I'm back at the apartment and am reading a chapter from the book, This is Your Brain on Music, which I have read some of before thanks to my lovely friend, Tina. If you're in to the biology behind the human's response to music, this is a really cool book.
For all of you who have been following me on my journey through my health issues and who care to keep reading... I have had a lovely visit from Aunt flow today. Something which hasn't happened to me for a year and a half. I've been using progesterone creme therapy for about a month and a half now and it seems to be helping a lot! We'll see what happens, maybe this will be what I need to be a "normal" girl again. Hmmmmm
