I say I'm alive because the last 2 day's I've been here myself and about 10 of the other 14 kids in our group have suffered from a bad case of the stomach flu. Brutal... but hey, at least we're in a 5 star hotel!
Yes, tragically, the only day I was not bed ridden and confined to a 15 minute walk to the store for water and rice cakes, it was raining. That day was fun, yes, and we found a restraunt which served "american" food, such as Burgers of all kinds, breakfast all day, fajitas, etc. It was an unexpectedly good find!
We think we all got it from eating or drinking something that was contaminated. The first girl, Hayley, got sick the day before we left Paris. My roommate in Paris, Molly, was sick on the train and Hayley was still sick. Then we got to Nice and a group of people got food poisoning from a restaurant we went too. That effectively took out another 8 people and some people are still recovering from that. The group that didn't go there (including myself) went to a different place and of them, my roommate and I got sick the next morning, 2 girls have been fine the entire time, and one girl was only sick one night.
Today I finally woke up, literally singing to my roommate that it was time for breakfast! What a change from even yesterday, when I didn't know if I would ever feel normal again. haha. I was actually really worried that I wasn't going to get better before we left for ITALY tomorrow morning. I think most people except Hayley and Nicole are on the last day of any sickness. I think those girls are going to the dr today. Poor Heyley has been sick for about a week. :(
Today is a day of possibilities! Anna and I are cautiously going out adventuring to Old Nice where there is a lot of shopping and food (we might hold off on anything too exotic, though we both want falafel for some potentially very bad reason). Then later, a group of us are going to try to hike up to the top of this hill that is supposed to have a beautiful panoramic view of Nice and the surrounding area. I can't wait as just walking along the board walk in front of our hotel is an amazing and beautiful view. I thought that the Indian Ocean was the bluest large body of water I've ever seen but the Mediterranean is tied or beating it. Its SO vivid. I wish I had better descriptive prowess so that you could imagine yourselves here, but alas... I do not. So here are some pictures that I have snagged on those rare occasions when we adventured outside out rooms.
Last night's sunset!
AAAAAnd I would have posted more photos but they all just disappeared and it took so long to upload those 5 that I wanted that I'll try more later, at least I'm not dead anymore!
Love to you all! I can't wait for Italy because they check all their children for Ceoliac disease as it is a rising problem there and therefore they are very aware of it! I googled "gluten free in Florence" and about 30 hits came up within walking distance of our hotel! BOO-YA! :D
