Last Day in Paris

Listening to music, drinking wine and complaining about having to register at 3am for classes on a ship while abroad...Good-bye Paris!
Today we started off with a trip to the Centre Pompidou, a modern art museum with a collection near 100.000 pieces. We only saw one floor of this 6 story museum but we saw a lot! My favorite artist continually throughout the entire thing was Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter and artist who worked through the turn of the century and who's works reminded me a lot of Edie's stuff. Maybe that's why I liked it so much! ;)  I also found that I really enjoyed the Rhythme works by Robert  Delaunay. His wife, Sonia, did some cool pieces as well. I find that I like abstract art with bright colors and movement within the work which reminds me of jazz music. :) All three of those artists did that continually with their pieces.
After that we got lunch at "the best falafel stop in Paris," according to Dr. Brint. I was excited to try this place as I hadn't tried a really good falafel since I had been abroad. (Molly and Katie LOVE this place that was/is situated on the street behind our apartment called Mazo Vegetarian. I liked it but it gave me the weirdest stomach ache). We got to the "Jewish neighborhood of Paris" and could tell we found the place by the fact that there was a line out the door and three other falafel places within 20 feet with no body in line. I liked it. In fact, for my restaurant reviews that Brint makes us do, I gave it a 4.5. The thing is though, even though its was better than any falafel I'd had while abroad, it doesn't live up to the falafel made by my neighbors at their restaurant, Yum Yum. I must have not realized how spoiled I was with their food, but nothing seems to compare! We even found a MyBerry Frozen Yogurt (pink berry spin off) where Katie and Molly got some tart frozen yogurt with raspberries. YUM, I was jealous.
I stopped by an optical store on the way back because one of the nose pieces on my glasses broke the other night. The lady spoke a little english and seemed apprehensive when I asked if she could fix my glasses, but when she saw that it was just the nose piece she took them and said "Oh no problem!" I waited about 5 minutes (trying on all the Gucci and D&G glasses while I waited) and she returns after replacing BOTH pieces (they weren't the same color or shape otherwise!) and cleaning them. When I asked if I needed to pay she waved me off and looked offended. No, of course not! I was so pleased!
The rest of the day has been packing, laundry and dinner at a delicious place called Le Paradis du Fruit. The menu features fresh fruit and vegetables in their cocktails (a little too pricey for us), plates, and also in dessert. I got a curry made from chicken with vanilla, pineapple and apples. It was definitley interesting but not something I'd get again. I'm glad I got it and tried it though, otherwise I would have gotten the Quinoa and veggies (I've totally had that before!) and I wanted to try something new! We got a bottle of wine to split and some crepes after that for dessert and to eat while we finished watching Fight Club, which we had all fallen asleep during last night.
Speaking of crepes... I was really excited because yesterday I had found a place which made crepes from buckwheat flour, which I can have as it actually not even related to wheat. I got a Tuna and tomato crepe and I was so excited, but all that day I felt so crappy. I had assigned blame to the cheese and wheat crepe batter I had consumed the night before (I wasn't in the most sound and logical of moods then, I will admit, after the progressive dinner). I felt just terrible the whole day and very very tired. I felt like I did when I was eating wheat regularly and so I obviously contributed it to the crepe batter. The thing I realized today while getting a crepe at the same place, was that though they wipe off the hot tables they make the crepes on, they use the same little crepe spatula thing to flatten out the batter. This little wood tool sits in a bath of water and batter which has accumulated all day. The utensil is used for the wheat and buckwheat crepes, meaning that the crepe man slathers my delicious buckwheat in regular wheat-y water every time he makes a new crepe. I was super sad tonight AFTER i ordered my crepe and had to pay. I took a couple pills and ate some of it. I still think it was worth it for tonight at least- we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, we're leaving Paris tomorrow and heading out to Nice! I'm really excited but sad to leave our cute little apartment. I will definitely miss it. Good-bye Paris! I enjoyed my time there!
