So today I started my application process of getting a new MiniMed pump. The new revel system should be better at the whole "continuous glucose monitoring" thing.
I'm hoping that it gets to be more accurate and similar to the Navigator I had before. That system I LOVED for how well it read my Lows, predicted my bloodsugar and how it followed my trends. I have no problem saying that it was a better-made system than my current minimed system. The reason I switched was because of 2 factors- 1: I had to get rid of my old Cozmo pump (sniff sniff) because they stopped making them; and 2: because the transmitter for the Navigator kept falling off cause it was so big and the tape on the back SUCKED. Any type of exercise would cause me to sweat and the sweat would accumulate under the tape and by the time I took a shower the whole thing would be full of water and starting to peal off. So frustrating! I like the Minimed for this reason- it stays on. Its small, and it doesn't rip off when I accidentally walk a little too close to a door frame. hahah- Its true, I've done that! I honestly don't know how those who have the OmniPod keep that thing on their arms.
BUT, if what I hear about the new minimed system is true, and it's better at predicting lows/READING them (for the one I have sucks and is almost always 20 points too high or low) then I will be one happy diabetic. Let's all cross our fingers that I will be able to receive it before I head of to jolly London-town. (In 2 weeks... EEK!)
Also, I am going to be writing my story for the STOPDiabetes website later today and adding a link to this blog there! How cool will that be? Let's just hope that I update it enough so that I'm actually providing some good information. Reviewing the new CGM, telling people about how traveling with the system will be and how eating all this gluten-free foreign food will affect my mind, my stamina and my blood sugar. It's gonna be one heck-of-a ride people! I'M SO EXCITED!
Let me know if you want me to talk about anything specific!
Em- Can't wait to follow your adventure with it all, especially the Revel and Predictive CGM alerts. Love to hear all about it. Take Care and Good Luck. ENJOY!!! -Michelle Shaw
