Lots of walking, riding the tube, rain, rain, rain, walking, and a head cold.
Its actually great here, I'm really liking it. I dunno if I would like to live here, but visiting is quite nice.
We took the last 2 nights in Oxford a little hard so when we arrived Friday afternoon to our hotel after lugging all our suitcases around ( I actually took a cab with some other people to avoid the whole rain issue) we mostly all passed out. Dinner we all did together at this amazing Indian food place. I seriously ate so much food. It was so delicious I just couldn't stop. Everybody's dish was superb and spicey. I got dahl, a lentil dish, and it was one of the mildest. I also got a glass of house white, which was very good- it wasn't very dry. I think that's why I liked it. We all came back and passed out due to food comas after that.
We get breakfast delivered to our rooms in the morning. It consists of a hot drink (coffee for me), a juice (fresh squeezed OJ) and a bakery item (I have no options here so I get a croissant and give it to Molly.) Anything else costs extra, so I just eat a granola bar generally. We took off as a group with DBrint to the place with half price theatre tickets. I got tickets to Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera. Many people in our group got tickets to see the Lion King, but I've already seen it so I wanted to experience something else.
After tickets we had lunch at a Kebab stand and then walked around the touristy parts of London: Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey (we didn't go in though), across the Themes and around to the Eye of London. It was all pretty cool, but again, I was tuckered out when we came back, so I relaxed a little, took a shower and then we were off to a Mexican Restaurant. It was extremely over priced but the margs were good!
Hayley, Jeremy and I then went to our show, Chicago. It was really well done. Very minimal set which included the band on stage and a couple of chairs. There were some cool ladders that swung out from the winds but that was the extent pretty much. The costumes were fabulous and I really enjoyed Velma and Roxie-they had very good actresses. Mama Morton was not my favorite, she lacked a lot of oomf, which is kinda that character's niche. The dancing was just stunning and really cool. The choreography for cell block tango for me was a little disappointing but Both Reached for the Gun was so cool and very well done.
Of course it was pouring when we got out, but luckily I had my Umbrella with me! We stopped into a pub near our hotel called the Pride of Paddington and found Nate, Skyler and Evan nursing some pints after seeing a 3 hour opera based on Faust. A drink there and I was about ready for bed.
This morning we had breakfast and then went to the British Museum to see the Parthenon exhibit. Dr Brint really wanted us to get an idea of what the majority of the decorations looked like so that when we are actually there in Greece, we'll have a better idea. Too bad Britain won't give back all the statues and everything to Greece, they have a lot of their history...
Now I'm waiting impatiently for dinner, and pretending that I'm doing reading for homework. It's not working very well. Shoot. My tutorial is on Tuesday right before heading off to see Phantom. We leave London for Paris early on the 6th.
